People visit the Out Islands looking for natural beauty and peaceful isolation. Those looking for glitzy all inclusive resorts, casinos and Las Vegas-style entertainment are better off sticking to Nassau and Grand Bahama island. Although Treasure Cay does have some excellent resorts, which offer golf and entertainment, the vibe still leans towards the serene.

However, for those who need a break from the hectic pace of modern life, the Out Islands offer a beautiful sanctuary, where the waters are clear, the sand is white and there’s always a friendly face at the bar.

Nightlife

The Out Islands are peppered with lively spots to have a drink, meet locals and swap fish stories. "Formal" attire means making sure to wear a shirt and shoes, and some places have a pier where you can dock your boat. Like Exuma’s Eddie's Edgewater Club, loud music, strong drinks and good company can be found for a great night out. However, since anglers and sailors tend to be early risers, very few places stay open after midnight.

Fishing

From the largest resort on Treasure Cay to the tiniest Bimini bed and breakfast, all the Out Islands hotels cater to the fisherman. Concierges and innkeepers can arrange for trips, charters and even equipment rental. Many resorts even offer discounted fishing packages, which include everything a fisherman or woman needs in the price of accommodation. For those who wish to arrange their own trips, Seagull Fishing Charters and Bonefish Andros can provide boats and expert guides.

Boating and Watersports

Most of the Out Islands are only reachable by boat or seaplane, so a large number of travelers arrive in their own boats. However, for those who arrive by ferry, larger towns do offer boats for charter, with or without a captain and crew. Island Marine Boat Rentals will even deliver boats to smaller cays. For athletic types looking for adventure, Kayak Bimini offers guided tours through the hidden wonders of the Biminis.

The large resorts rent a myriad of watersports equipment, everything from jet skis to boogie boards to snorkel equipment. Dive Centers like Andros Scuba Center, Dive Abaco and Cat Island Dive Center serve the needs of the diving community with equipment rentals, classes and tours.

Exploration

The Out Islands are dotted with historical sites and natural wonders, most uncluttered by heavy tourist traffic. San Salvador’s Columbus Monument marks the spot where the explorer first landed in the New World. Andros consists primarily of pristine rainforest, an ideal spot to do some eco-exploration.

Visitors to Cat Island can see the abandoned St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church, the former parish of famous Catholic missionary Father Jerome. Elbow Cay’s charming Hope Town makes a wonderful day trip for anyone looking for a true taste of Bahamian life.
