Martha's Vineyard is bounded by Vineyard Sound, Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Just five miles from Cape Cod, this island is noted for its varied landscape and the individual character of its towns and residents.

Edgartown

Edgartown was once a large whaling community that boomed in the late 18 Century and early 19th Century. Today it is a popular destination for its many historic homes, many of which once belonged to famous sea captains. The Old Whaling Church is the oldest in Edgartown. There are also many charming bed and breakfasts, such as Arbor Inn, and restaurants such as the Seafood Shanty in this area.

Oak Bluffs

Oak Bluffs was once called "Cottage City," and it's easy to see why, with its many quaint, homes and lodging options, like the Dockside Inn. Popular restaurants here include Smoke 'n Bones and Zapotec Restaurant. This is the site of the annual Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival and Big Chili Contest.

Vineyard Haven

Vineyard Haven is Martha's Vineyard main harbor for both imports and exports. This is a popular destination for those looking to spend the summer away from home. You'll find Vineyard Playhouse and the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary here. The list of accommodation options is long, with Hanover House and Crocker House Inn standing out among some of the best.

Chilmark and Menemsha

Chilmark and Menemsha are located at the southern tip of Martha's Vineyard, along the coast. Like many towns on the island, Chilmark was once a fishing village. Visitors come here to enjoy the quiet countryside and rough beaches. Menemsha remains a fishing community today. Its sleepy atmosphere is perfect for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Here you'll find lighthouses, tiny shops, cafes and secluded cottages, all there for your exploration.
