District Guide

add to Travel Bag (NEW)

Whatever this pocket-sized hamlet may lack in size, it more than makes up for in exciting events and entertainment. Most months out of the year, visitors are sure to find something worthwhile to experience.

Historic District

The Historic District, with Main Street at its center, bursts at the seams with its abundance of historical buildings and museums. Take the Barney Ford House Museum, for example. The museum is the actual home built by runaway slave Barney Ford, a home preserved for posterity and educational value. Visitors can also head to the Carter Museum, an attraction devoted to environmentalist Edwin Carter and his many natural artifacts. The well-preserved historical building, the Summit County Courthouse, stands as a testament of times gone by. It also features a collection of indigenous minerals.

The charming Dredge Boathouse is a family-friendly restaurant housed in a replica of one of Blue River’s largest dredges from the early 1900s. Also in this area is the Breckenridge Recreation Center and the Riverwalk Center, which is packed with plenty of ski shops selling gear, clothing and repair services. Some of the best shops include Lone Star Sports, Ski Country Sports, and Bahnhof Sport. Main Street is also rife with plenty of souvenir shops, most notably the chain of Shirt Off My Back stores.

Four Seasons

This district, nestled between Peak 9 and Warriors Mark, houses the finely-appointed Marriott Mountain Valley Lodge, one of Breckinridge’s premier ski resorts. At Cecilia's, martinis accompany the DJs and live music nightly until the early hours of the morning. Liquid Lounge likewise draws in the crowds eager to bust a move on the dance floor.

Peak 9

Peak 9 services those that take skiing seriously. Shed the frills of Breckenridge’s more expensive hotels and book either the Beaver Run Resort or the Breckenridge Mountain Lodge. These digs may not be luxurious, but they offer comfortable amenities and are located right at the base of the peak, so you’ll waste little time getting to the top. After a hard day of play, relax at Beaver Run’s Tiffany's, a sports bar fitted with large TV’s, perfect for catching the game. For some hearty fare, Spencer's Steaks & Spirits dishes out slabs of steak to satisfy that slope-weary stomach.

Peak 8

Think of Peak 8 as an over-sized amusement park. This district specializes in children's entertainment, with Peak 8 Fun park as its main attraction. Here, the mountains come alive with the peals of children’s laughter as they slide down the Zip Line and bounce on the Sky Fly Power Trampoline. The family-oriented Grand Timber Lodge goes out of its way to coddle the kids with numerous activities, including parties, rafting and camping.

Warriors Mark and Baldy Mountain

These districts, situated away from all the hubbub that surrounds Main Street, shine as Breckenridge’s quieter side. Enjoy some great dining surrounded by Rocky Mountain splendor at Briar Rose, a steak and seafood joint at the top of Peak 10, near Briar Rose Silver Mine. Top of the World, Baldy Mountain’s answer to Briar Rose, offers spectacular views that make you feel like you’re, well, on top of the world.
