Ground transportation:

Most of Marrakech’s hotels and riads supply their customers with airport transfers which may even be included in the price of the room.

Bus:

Bus 11 links the airport to the downtown ( it takes about 15 minutes to get to Jemaâ El Fna ) theoretically every 30 minutes. A ticket costs MAD 3. Bus 19 passes each hour from 7am to midnight and notably stops in the Hivernage and the Gueliz districts and at the Jemaâ El Fna square ( about MAD 20 for a one-way ticket and MAD 30 for a round-trip ticket ).

Taxi:

Many petit taxis line up to wait for visitors. Make sure the meter is turned on to avoid being scammed. During the day, it should cost around MAD 50 to reach the Medina or the Gueliz districts by taxi.

Car Rental:

Avis ( +212 24 43 31 69 / http://www.avis.com )
Europcar ( +212 24 43 77 18 / http://www.europcar.com )
Hertz ( +212 24 44 72 30 / https://www.hertz.com )

By Train:

Marrakech Railway Station ( Office National des Chemins de Fer - ONCF / +212 24 44 77 03 / http://www.oncf.ma ) is located on Avenue Hassan II, southwest of the Gueliz district. Many daily trains connect Marrakech to the other Moroccan cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Tanger, Meknes or Fez, as well as many other smaller stations. Ticket prices are affordable and first class accommodations are very comfortable. The timetable is available at the information office of the railway station and on the ONCF’s website.

By Intercity Buses:

The bus station ( +212 24 43 39 33 ) lies outside the historical ramparts, next to Bab Doukkala Gate. Buses connect to most major Moroccan cities daily. CTM ( http://www.ctm.co.ma/ ) has good buses and affordable prices. Supratours ( www.supratours.ma ) connects Marrakech to Essaouira and Agadir and is reputed for the quality of its air-conditioned buses. They leave from Avenue Hassan II, next to the ONCF train station. It is recommended that you buy the tickets a day ahead.

By Shared Taxis:

The shared taxis, also called grands taxis, can fit up to six people and leave once the car is full. If you want to leave before the taxi is full, you can pay the driver for the difference. It’s a good way to get to Essaouira ( about MAD 750 roundtrip for six passengers ) or to Atlas villages like Setti Fatma. Grands taxis to Atlas leave in front of the historical ramparts next to Bab Er-Robb gate, while those to Essaouira leave near the Bab Doukkala bus station.

Getting Around:

Bus:

Many bus lines stop next to Jemaâ El Fna square ( on the square De La Foucault ). They notably connect the Palmeraie area and Gueliz ( bus 1 ), gate Bab Doukkala and the ONCF train station ( bus 8 ), or the airport ( bus 11 ). Tickets cost MAD 3.

By Car:

Driving in the city of Marrakech might be awkward for the novice, as the traffic seems without any rules or regulations at first sight. However, there are a few public parking lots, inside or near the medina and in the Gueliz. Some parts of the medina are reachable by car.

Car Rental:

Many car rental companies have an agency in Marrakech, such as:
Europcar ( +212 24 43 12 28 / http://www.europcar.com )
Majestic Location ( +212 24 43 65 00 / http://www.majesticlocation.com )

By Taxi:

Petits taxis are beige and don’t take more than three customers. Their drivers are supposed to use meters but often don't unless asked to switch it on. A ride in the downtown costs between MAD 5 and MAD 10 ( although prices rise at night ). Grands taxis fit up to six people, but they are more expensive.

By Carriage:

Carriages can be found at the square De La Foucault, next to the square Jemaâ El Fna, but you can also find them along the great hotels of the Ville Nouvelle. Officially, one hour costs MAD 80. It is common practice first to fix a price with the driver according to the tour you wish to take. Riding in a carriage is an original way to discover the historical ramparts of Marrakech or some parts of the medina, to go to Jardin Majorelle & Musée d'Art Islamique or the Palmeraie.

By Foot:

This is the best way to discover the Medina, although it does allow motor vehicles. Parts of the Gueliz district are nice for walking, notably in the pedestrian streets around Abdel Moumen Ben Ali square and in some shopping streets like Rue de la Liberté.
