The residents of this hillside community decided to buy this property when they heard that a condominium developer had his eye on the old school. After a year of fundraising, the community's kitty was still short. To complete the purchase, a dozen families put second mortgages on their homes to come up with the remaining $25,000. The gymnasium is the only structure that remains of the old 1940s building, but classes and a community kitchen are also on the park grounds.
