Join St. John's best birders and those with lots less birding time on their binoculars for the Audubon Society of St. John's annual Christmas Bird Count in late December. No experience is necessary; just bring your binoculars and your enthusiasm. You must sign up in advance because the Audubon Society assigns teams to cover much of the island. This is part of an international effort that keeps tabs on migratory and local birds. Over the decades, data from the Virgin Islands has helped track the effects of development and hurricanes on bird populations. Admission is free.
