This annual horse race meeting is a highlight of the Wellington social scene. Held over the course of three days, usually in January, this event with its carnival atmosphere is attended by up to 30,000 patrons. Colourful marquees, celebrity guests, fashion contests and musical entertainment accompany top quality thoroughbred horse racing. The meeting culminates in the Wellington Cup worth a total stake of NZD300,000.
