Eid al Adha is an Islamic festival that signals the completion of an annual pilgrimage to holy Muslim sites in Saudi Arabia. It is the religious obligation of all Muslims to undertake this pilgrimage each year, during the first nine days of the Dhul Hijjah month in the Islam calendar. Eid al Adha is the three-day celebration that takes place at the end of this pilgrimage, and involves the slaughter of a goat - a ritual marking the willingness of the Prophet Ishmael to sacrifice his own son to Allah. The meat is then distributed to family, friends and the underprivileged.
