People in Basel start celebrating the special occasion of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ way before the actual day. Starting at the end of November, the city is brightly lit up with more than a 100,000 lights. Check out the huge Christmas tree at Messeplatz and the longest Christmas street in the whole of Europe, stretching from Aeschenplatz to Freie Straße (a famous shopping area). The whole city takes on the seasonal cheer, and it is a truly wondrous time to be visiting.
