The island's largest and most energetic annual event, held in December and early January, culminates in early January with a parade of costumed troupes and floats through the streets of St Croix. If you can only make one event, try for Food Fair, held in mid-December. This is a chance to sample West Indian fare seldom seen on local restaurant menus. Other events include nightly parties in Carnival Village, royalty pageants and calypso competitions. Most vendors do not take credit cards.
