Chamonix is in many respects the cradle of skiing; best known for its mountaineering and extreme pistes, the Verte des Houches course has also played host to the World Cup men's downhill and slalom most years since it hosted the 1924 Winter Olympics. Just 90 minutes by bus from downtown Geneva, spectators can take in some skiing or take a seat in the grandstand and cheer on the Swiss Franco Cavegn, Didier Cuche and Bruno Kernen, among others or Frenchmen Jean-Pierre Vidal and Claude Cretier. Ticket prices are set in autumn.
