Held on the majestic and historic Senate Square at the close of each year, this festive universal event draws families, singles, locals and visitors from all Finland to imbibe and count down the seconds to the coming new year. Hundreds of revelers bundle up in their warmest togs and fill up their thermos with a nip or two of vodka. Fireworks, candles and landing a prime spot on the cathedral steps are highlights of the night. This event is free.
