In Barcelona, most people meet up with friends and family to usher in the New Year. At midnight, the Spanish tradition is to eat twelve grapes, one on each stroke of the clock. If successful, this brings good luck for the coming year. It's actually easier said than done, and once you start laughing it becomes nearly impossible to stuff your mouth and swallow all of the grapes. Plaça Catalunya and Las Ramblas are popular meeting points for the free celebrations.
