This local celebration is very well-known not only on account of its ceremonial status, but also on account of its originality. The Paradura (or "standing up") simply means that the baby Jesus, born in December, can already stand up and walk by the beginning of January. The ceremony begins with the occupiers of the house inviting their friends to come by, including the Child's "godparents". There are libations and prayers beside the Nativity and Crib; Christmas carols are sung, accompanied by stringed and percussion instruments. Finally, the godparents take the Child from the crib and walk with Him around the house, until leaving Him, standing up good and straight, between the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph.
