Nearly a month of Christmas festivities rounds out in San Jose with this celebration on January 6th (annually). For many Costa Ricans, this holiday, marking the three kings' discovery of the Christ child, remains a central Christmas holiday, with gift-giving and prayers at home and more public celebrations, with the singing of carols and the eating of traditional foods such as tamales. Also try the rich rompope(alcoholic eggnog), moderation recommended. Finally, the manger scenes called "portales" are ritually dismantled, and the season officially comes to a close.
