Each year at Christmas time, Weihnachtsmärkte are much loved throughout Germany. In Cologne meanwhile, in order to cope with the demand, there are now four different Christmas markets. Nicest are the ones at Alter Markt in the Altstadt and at Roncalliplatz, beside the Dom, which offer the most festive atmosphere. Candles, furs, wooden kitchen utensils, and assorted Christmas decorations are for sale. The market at Neumarkt is rather commercial and, surrounded by traffic, is not so nice as the others. The fourth, on the Ring at Rudolfplatz, is improving every year.
