If you're in Lima during the middle of January, you won't be able to miss celebrations commemorating the foundation of the city by Francisco Pizarro in 1535. Activities center around the town's Plaza Mayor, where you'll find cultural and historical exhibitions on colonial times, open-air concerts, and traditional singing and dancing. Or, join locals for a trolley ride that includes a guided tour of old town Lima. At night, performances continue in the main square, as do colorful parades and fireworks.
