In a country where dinner reservations are made for 11pm on a regular basis, it is no surprise that New Year’s Eve celebrations tend to go on throughout wee hours. Partiers gather at hip nightclubs and take to the streets to celebrate the dawning of a new year. Some revelers create life-sized dolls meant to represent the difficulties of the past year. At midnight, the dolls are burned to signify a fresh start. Dolls aren’t the only things that go up in smoke; as in many places throughout the world, Caracas hosts fireworks displays to usher in the new year.
