The Tanztage, an annual dance festival that takes place during the first two weeks of January, was founded by Barbara Friedrich and Benjamin Schälike in 1996. Aimed at giving young dancers and choreographers the chance to exhibit their work on stage in front of a friendly audience, the festival has a varied and lively program, around two thirds of which consists of premieres. Tanztage has been so successful that it now goes on tour to various cities in Germany and across Europe, including Freiburg, Dresden and Budapest. The performances are always popular, so make sure you get there early!
